MARKLUND HAS HIGH HOPES FOR ROUND 8

Sunday 18th of October 2020

GCK Bilstein’s Anton Marklund has high hopes for the eighth round of the 2020 FIA World Rallycross Championship, the Logitech G FIA World RX of Catalunya at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya today.

Sweden’s Marklund w as P3, P9 and P10 in the three qualifying sessions of World RX round seven yesterday, to be P8 in the Intermediate Classification. He battled with KYB Team JC’s Robin Larsson and GRX Taneco’s Niclas Gronholm in semi-final two and finished in P4, just missing a place in the final, but thanks to improvements to the Renault Megane RS RX, Marklund is feeling confident ahead of round eight.

“I really like this track in Barcelona and we’ve had some good, additional prep time ahead of this weekend. Bilstein have put in a new evolution of the dampers since the last round and this hard work has really paid off, the car feels great which I think we proved with our practice time yesterday and P3 in Q1. Q2 and Q3 were more of a struggle with significant impact in Q2 and some miscalculations in Q3, which had us miss out on the first row of the semi-finals. The car felt fantastic again in the semi-finals and we just missed out on a spot in the final having got stuck in a little bit of traffic. It feels great though because I can really feel the potential of the car for today now,” he said.

All three GCK run Megane RS RXs made the semi-finals in round seven, the Logitech G FIA World RX of Pirineus-Barcelona 2030, with Monster Energy GCK RX Cartel pairing Liam Doran, from Great Britain, and Andreas Bakkerud, from Norway, both having strong events. Bakkerud qualified for the final after a battle with Sweden’s Mattias Ekstrom for P2 in semi-final one, and then finished P6 in the final. Bakkerud also set the quickest time in Q2, proving the potential of the Megane RS RX. In Q1 this morning, double FIA European Rallycross Champion Marklund will in P4 of Race 4, joined on the grid by Finland’s Niclas Gronholm, Hungary’s Tamas Karai and Germany’s Timo Scheider. Bakkerud and Doran will start in Race 3.
