The next rounds of the 2020 FIA World Rallycross Championship will take place at the Logitech G FIA World RX of “Pirineus-Barcelona 2030” (17 October) and the Logitech G FIA World RX of Catalunya (18 October)
Germany’s Timo Scheider has already scored one podium finish in World RX 2020, in round one at Holjes-Sweden for ALL-INKL.COM Muennich Motorsport, but he took his first ever World RX podium at the at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya in 2017. Double DTM Champion Scheider made his World RX debut at the at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya in 2015, driving an All-INKL.COM Audi S3, but his first season as a permanent World RX driver was in 2017, driving for MJP Racing Team Austria, as teammate to Sweden’s Kevin Eriksson.
The first round of the 2017 season took place at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya and even though it was Sweden’s Johan Kristoffersson in PSRX Volkswagen Sweden’s new Volkswagen Polo, Finland’s Toomas ‘Topi’ Heikkinen in EKS’s Audi S1, Sweden’s Mattias Ekstrom in the second EKS Audi and Norway’s Andreas Bakkerud in Hoonigan Racing Division’s Ford Focus RS RX that set the quickest times in the four qualifiers, Scheider’s consistency, including two P2 positions in Q2 and Q3, gave the Ford Fiesta driver his first ever World RX TQ (top qualifier) position in the Intermediate Classification.
Scheider lost the lead of semi-final one at the start when Kristoffersson took the advantage, but held off Heikkinen for P2 and started on row two for the final. In the last race of the weekend, Kristoffersson made a slow start from the front row and Scheider climbed to second behind pole starter Ekstrom on the first lap. After the chasing pack had all taken their jokers, Scheider followed Ekstrom into the joker on lap five and the two former DTM champions came out one and two, and stayed that way to the finish. Bakkerud joined them on the podium.
