Sweden’s Mattias Ekstrom is the top qualifier (TQ) in round six of the FIA World Rallycross Championship with KYB Team JC dominating qualifying at the NESTE World RX of Riga-Latvia.

Ekstrom was P1 in Q1 and Q2, then his team mate, Sweden’s Robin Larsson, struck back from a mistake in Q2 that caused damage to the Audi S1 Supercar to take the quickest time in Q3. Larsson’s comeback means he will start on row 1 of semi-final 1 together with Ekstrom this afternoon. World RX Drivers’ Championship leader Johan Kristoffersson, from Sweden, dominated his race in Q3 on old tyres but wasn’t able to take the quickest time. He will start on pole position in semi-final 2, Team Hansen’s Timmy Hansen also on the front row. Like Larsson and Kristoffersson, Sweden’s Hansen won his race in Q3 but didn’t have the pace on new tyres to challenge Larsson’s time.

GRX Taneco’s Niclas Gronholm, from Finland, was stuck battling in traffic during the qualifying races and will start alongside Sweden’s Kevin Hansen on row two of semi-final 1 in sunny Riga this afternoon. All three Gronholm RX Hyundai i20s will be in the first semi-final. Russia’s Timur Timerzyanov and Hungary’s Krisztian Szabo will take row three. Szabo’s GRX SET i20 was a DNF in Q2 with a fire, but the GRX mechanics got the car repaired for Q3 and he went P5 in the session. Monster Energy GCK RX Cartel’s Andreas Bakkerud and Liam Doran will both start in semi-final 2, on row two and row three. Norway’s Bakkerud won his race in Q2 and Great Britain’s Doran won his race in Q3. Also on row two in semi-final 2 will be ALL-INKL.COM Muennich Motorsport’s Timo Scheider, from Germany, and GCK Bilstein’s Anton Marklund, from Sweden.

First reserve for the semi-finals is Latvia’s Reinis Nitiss, the ESmotorsport driver P13 in the Intermediate Classification.
