Finland’s Niclas Gronholm says there is no home advantage for him or the GRX Taneco team at the CapitalBox World RX of Finland, rounds three and four of the FIA World Rallycross Championship at Kouvola.

Gronholm was P4 in the Hyundai i20 Supercar in round three yesterday, two places behind Gronholm RX team mate Juha Rytkonen, making his debut. With overnight rain making the Kouvola track slippery for round four, Gronholm will take pole position in Q1 Race 3, Rytkonen will start in the middle of the same race and Russia’s Timur Timerzyanov will start in the middle of Q1 Race 2. “It’s nice to have a race on my home soil, but unfortunately that doesn’t give me any advantage at all. We worked hard during the week and the car feels better than in the season opener in Sweden. I was a bit unlucky with the puncture in the Q3 yesterday, that took away my chances of the front row start in the semi-final. In the final, the guys around me had a very similar pace to mine and with none of them making mistakes, the overtaking was impossible,” said Gronholm.

Timerzyanov, the winner at the World RX of Benelux at Spa last year, is hoping the new weather conditions for round four will level the playing field and he can improve on his semi-final position from Saturday. “Unfortunately, I was not able to progress to the final yesterday, but we start from a blank piece of paper today as we have completely different weather conditions for the round four of the season,” said Timerzyanov.
