MATEJA AIMING TO MAKE HIS MARK

Monday 13th of April 2020

Czech Republic’s Lukas Mateja will join the grid for the inaugural World RX Esports event this weekend (April 19), when in collaboration with Codemasters and Motorsport Games, the FIA World Rallycross Championship will hold the Catalunya Esports Invitational.

The event will run in place of the first round of World RX 2020, which has been postponed due to the COVID-19 (coronavirus) pandemic, and the Esports extravaganza will pitch World RX stars and other motorsport professionals against fans.

As one of the top three drivers in qualifying for the Catalunya RX event, 22-year-old Mateja will line up on the grid as one of the most experienced DiRT Rally 2.0 players. “I'm very excited and I can't wait for the race," he said. "I was a finalist in Dirt Rally 2.0 World Series both for rally and RX where I finished P4 and P5, which was big disappointment for me, but it’s hard to say how competitive I can he in this race.

"I don't know how fast the professional drivers will be. But what I do know is that the Dall'olmo brothers are very fast. I will of course try to win but it will be very tough."

Mateja says his dream is to compete in high level rallycross and that he is looking forward to racing some of the biggest names from World RX, like Johan Kristoffersson, Andreas Bakkerud, Hansen brothers Timmy and Kevin, and Timo Scheider. “It is great pleasure to race against the best drivers in the world. I will need be careful around them, you don't really want big accident with real drivers. My racing ambition is to at least once in my life try real life racing, that's basically my dream, to be a professional driver. I think everyone who watches World RX wants to compete there and I'm no different, so I would love to compete against the best.”

Despite putting in “hours and hours of practice” during his sim racing career so far, Mateja hasn’t had much time to practice for the RX Esports Invitational this weekend yet, but he is sure to be ramping up the preparation to take on the best rallycross drivers in the world.
