Sweden’s Pontus Tidemand has entered the FIA European Rallycross Championship for Supercars full time and will drive a Volkswagen Polo for Hedstroms Motorsport.

Tidemand, fresh from a WRC2 class win in the World Rally Championship round in Mexico, contested four rounds of the 2019 Euro Supercar championship in a Volkswagen Beetle with Per Eklund Motorsport and finishing eighth in the championship. He also competed in the inaugural FIA World Rallycross Championship in 2014 with EKS in an Audi S1.

Team boss Peter Hedstrom explained that the entry was put together at the last minute. As the hours rolled towards the deadline for Euro RX registration, Hedstrom along with colleague Christer Dalmans, finalised the deal with Tidemand just as their fellow-countryman was putting the finishing touches to victory in Mexico.

“The big problem was actually to really get in touch. Pontus was in Mexico with nine hours’ time difference and in the middle of the WRC event, but once we could talk to each other everything got settled in a minute,” said Hedstrom, the two-time Swedish Rallycross Champion. “I also plan to do Euro RX and RallyX Nordic for the first three races then see which series I will complete. We will have cars in both series.”

Tidemand is pleased to take part in Euro RX this season. “I am very grateful for Peter's call in the middle of the rally, I want to drive as much as possible and the Euro RX Championship will make a good addition to my WRC2 campaign. The first tests are something I am really looking forward to. I am sure that something very special will come out of this collaboration.”
