Experienced Czech Republic rally driver Jan Cerny has signed with Pajr Motorsport to race in the FIA European Rallycross Championship for Super1600 this year.

Formerly a front running R2 specification rally driver, Cerny won events in a Skoda Fabia R5 in the Czech Republic in 2019. Before his rally career, Cerny began his junior career in rallycross and he will race a Skoda Citigo for his 2020 RX season.

“I have been watching World and European rallycross for a long time, this season I will have a front row seat thanks to a co-operation with the Pajr Motorsport team. I got a great offer to participate in the European Rallycross Championship in Super 1600, and I didn’t have to think a minute. I am really looking forward to this new co-operation – the whole project is a huge challenge for me," Cerny said.

"There is no doubt about the quality of the championship. I expect a lot of interesting battles and I have a lot to learn. I am delighted with the huge and professional commitment of the whole team, and also how beautiful the car to drive I can't wait for the first race.”

Norway’s Ole Henry Steinsholt will also return to Euro RX Super1600 in 2020 in the Skoda Fabia he raced last year and qualified for the semi-finals at Catalunya RX. “It feels really good to be able to announce that we are back in the European Championship. A lot of work has been put in over the winter to improvement both car and driver. The team is ready and we feel better prepared than ever to fight for the best positions,” Steinsholt said.

The Super1600 European Championship will be run at six rounds of the FIA World Rallycross Championship, starting at the first round in Barcelona.
