FIA World Rallycross Championship title-contender Kevin Hansen says he can’t wait to drive an electric rallycross car as part of the future of the sport.

The Swede, who won the World RX of Abu Dhabi last year and was part of a three way battle for the drivers’ title into the final round at Cape Town in South Africa in the closest ever World RX finish, was interviewed on the main stage at the Autosport International show in the UK yesterday.

Present as team principal for his and Timmy Hansen’s Yellow Squad RX2 team driver launch, Hansen spoke with new signing Dan Skocdopole about World RX and the future of the sport.

“Rallycross is amazing, it’s the most exciting motorsport on the planet in my opinion. We have such exciting races that you get such high adrenalin from, it’s impossible not to love it,” said Hansen.

“Rallycross is the perfect way for electric cars, it won’t be slow, boring and conserving energy it will be about extracting everything you can from a battery powertrain, which will be just incredible.

"We will have 680 horsepower and we will do 0-100kph in 1.8 seconds, which I just can’t wait to do. Rallycross from next year will be electric which is so exciting for the future and where we need to go to conserve our planet as well.”

Electric cars will become part of World RX weekends for the first time in 2020 with the Projekt E development series, using four-wheel drive electric kits created by STARD. Electric cars will also become part of the top World RX category and a Junior eRX series in 2021.
