FIA World Rallycross Championship runner-up Andreas Bakkerud has been selected as the Norwegian ASN’s Driver of the Year for 2019.

Bakkerud took the fight for the World RX Drivers’ title to the very last race of the season at the SABAT World RX of South Africa, and finished equal on points, but lost out on the title on count back.

With the Monster Energy RX Cartel team, driving an EKS-built Audi S1 RX, Bakkerud took victory at the World RX of Canada and finished on the podium six times. “I’m proud and honoured to receive the ‘Car Sport Athlete 2019’ from Norges Bilsportsforbund (ASN). I last won the prize back in 2011 which shows that the job we’ve put down over the years has been successful - and we’ll keep on going for more,” he said.

Also at the Norwegian Automobile Gala, two-time FIA World Rallycross Champion Petter Solberg was named as Norway’s ‘Best Ever Motorsport Athlete’.

“What an honour to be presented with the prize for Norway's Best Ever Motorsport Athlete. It’s so special, and a fantastic night was spent with so many of my family and friends. Thanks everyone for this honour, it means so much to me,” said Solberg, who also won the FIA World Rally Championship in 2003 and ended his professional driving career this year.
