HANSENS ALSO HUNTING TEAMS' CROWN
Friday 8th of November 2019
It’s not only the drivers’ title up for grabs at the SABAT World RX of South Africa, the final round of the 2019 FIA World Rallycross Championship in Cape Town.
Team Hansen MJP is top of the Teams’ Championship title fight entering the season finale, and holds the strongest hand as the Kenneth Hansen-owned team targets its second Teams’ title.
With strong form throughout the year, the Swedish team will start the 10th round of the season with a comfortable margin of 48 points over second placed GRX Taneco. As Hansen MJP drivers Timmy and Kevin Hansen battle for the Drivers’ title, if they score solid points in the event, the Hansen team will win its second World RX Teams’ title (the first was in 2015). The team needs to score eight points to be assured of the crown.
But, with Finland’s Niclas Gronholm and Russia’s Timur Timerzyanov both on the 2019 World RX winners list and capable of taking a big score of points back to Europe from Cape Town, if the Hansen team has a disaster this weekend, GRX still mathematically has a chance. GRX needs to have one eye over its shoulder in the Teams’ Championship too however, as Monster Energy RX Cartel is only 19 points behind in third, with Norway’s Andreas Bakkerud – who like the Hansen’s is right in the fight to become the 2019 Drivers’ Champion – and round one podium finisher Liam Doran capable of scoring big in Cape Town.
“We will manage the season finale the same way as we have done all year. Timmy and Kevin will be able to go flat-out and our only expectation is that they continue to have respect for each other, as they have done so far,” said Team Hansen MJP Team Principal Kenneth Hansen.
“We definitely won't take anything for granted. Whatever happens this weekend, we will celebrate on Sunday, because just being here this year and having managed to complete the whole season is like a win for us. It should be possible to win. Like Barcelona this year, when we finished first and second, it's something you dream about but you don't know if it will ever happen. But we know now it's possible.”Share this story on Facebook Share this story on Twitter
