Sweden’s Kevin Hansen set the fastest qualifying time of the weekend at the World RX of Abu Dhabi, round one of the FIA World Rallycross Championship at Yas Marina Circuit to take his first ever World RX TQ (top qualifier) position.

Team Hansen MJP driver Hansen made the best start in the last race of qualifying and finished in front of Latvia’s Janis Baumanis, but it was race one winner, Germany’s Timo Scheider who was second quickest overall. Hansen will start on the front row for semi-final one under the flood lights of the Yas Marina Circuit later today, joined by Scheider. On pole in semi-final two will be Finland’s Niclas Gronholm, the GRX Taneco star fifth in Q4. He will be joined by Baumanis.

Sweden’s Anton Marklund will start on row two of semi-final two in GC Kompetition’s Renault Megane, next to GRX’s Timur Timerzyanov. The Monster Energy RX Cartel team produced a star performance to get Andreas Bakkerud’s Audi S1 to the grid after the incident in Q3 with Timmy Hansen. Bakkerud drove slowly through the race to get a time and will start on row three of semi-final one, next to France’s Guerlain Chicherit. Timmy Hansen however was forced out of the event due to the damage caused to the Team Hansen MJP Peugeot 208’s roll cage.

Former FIA European Rallycross Super1600 Champions Krisztian Szabo (EKS Sport) and Rokas Baciuska (ESmotorsport – Labas GAS) will share row two in semi-final two. Timmy Hansen had qualified P10, but is out of the event so it will be Liam Doran (Monster Energy RX Cartel) and Cyril Raymond (GCK Academy) on the third row of semi-final two. Latvia’s Reinis Nitiss retired from his Q4 race and is first reserve for the semi-finals.
