Torben Olsen, recently appointed as Managing Director of the FIA World Rallycross Championship presented by Monster Energy, believes the 2019 season will be the closest for some time.

Olsen was speaking at the gathering of FIA motorsport series promoters at the Geneva Motor Show. He took his place on stage for the FIA press conference alongside FIA President Jean Todt, Chase Carey of Formula One, Olivier Ciesla of WRC, James Geidel of World Karting and Formula E’s Alejandro Agag.

Speaking ahead of the reveal of the 2019 World RX entry list, he said: “Tomorrow [Wednesday, March 6] we will be revealing our official 2019 entry list which features names synonymous with World Rallycross – and some fresh faces. We are anticipating a fierce privateer battle with the prospect of a rising star becoming an FIA world champion for the very first time.

“World RX has had a big impact on the world motor sport landscape in a short space of time and I am looking forward to playing a major role in shaping its future.”

Olsen moves across from a similar role with the FIM Speedway World Championship, a position he has held for the past four years. In his new role, Olsen will continue to report to Paul Bellamy, Senior Vice President of IMG.

Olsen has worked with FIA Circuit Working Group in the initial phases of rallycross track developments. He also retains a seat on the Commission of the Federation Internationale de Motorcyclisme (FIM), the governing body of motorcycle racing.
