Sweden’s Mattias Ekstrom, the 2016 FIA World Rallycross Champion, is confident that new EKS Sport signing Krisztian Szabo can be a winner in World RX 2019.

EKS has a history of running young drivers in its Audi S1 EKS RX Quattros, including Sweden’s Anton Marklund, Finland’s Toomas ‘Topi’ Heikkinen, Latvia’s Reinis Nitiss and Norway’s Andreas Bakkerud. Szabo will race a 2018 specification S1 to make his World RX debut in the first round of 2019 in Abu Dhabi. “I wanted to work together with Krisz this season because his results were quite promising last year and I predict a bright future for him. The World RX field has changed for 2019 and I think Krisz has a big chance to be one of the best and win many races,” said EKS owner Ekstrom.

Szabo first raced with EKS in the French and Latvian rounds of the FIA European Rallycross Championship to Supercar last year. He finished second at Loheac and made the final in Riga. “This is why I suggested that he races in the World Championship instead of the European Championship. I will help him as the team leader, I still have vivid memories from last year and I believe it will be useful for the team. I think that Krisztian will surprise many people because they still don’t know what he can do."
