France’s Guerlain Chicherit will return to the FIA World Rallycross Championship with high expectations in 2019, after a solid first season for the GC Kompetition team last year in the Renault Megane RS RXs.

GCK will reveal details of their driver line-up in the coming weeks and Chicherit is feeling upbeat about his and the team’s prospects for 2019.

“2018 was a big year for me, because it was my first full-time season. I had to learn all the tracks – nearly every track was new for me. I also needed to learn the sport, because you need to feel confident to be able to be in the fight. Some races at the end of the year started to be quite good, the speed was there, not all the time, so that’s why I still need to work and I know exactly what I have to do now,” he said.

“At the same time, we launched the team so it was brand new and everything was coming so fast. I’ve been lucky as I have a really good team around me and good people to make it work. It was not always easy but we made it and we come back in 2019 with high expectations.”

GCK started 2018 with a pair of Megane RS RXs, but increased to three cars in the final stages of the season, with Britain’s Liam Doran and Sweden’s Anton Marklund joining the team. Chicherit also raced in the French Rallycross Championship with FIA European Rallycross Championship team G Fors in 2018 in a Renault Clio Supercar, so who drives where in 2019 is one of the interesting dynamics ahead of the Euro RX and World RX permanent entry closing date.
