FIA World Rallycross Championship podium finisher Timo Scheider is planning an increased World RX programme in 2019. Germany’s Scheider made his World RX debut at Catalunya-Barcelona in 2015 with ALL-INKL.COM Muennich Motorsport, then drove in a full season for MJP Racing in 2017. He took TQ (top qualifier) in round one and finished second behind Sweden’s Mattias Ekstrom. This year Scheider appeared in four World RX rounds with Muennich Motorsport and qualified for the semi-finals in Cape Town. “The future looks bright for me with what I’m looking at. We still need to see what the future will bring, but for sure in 2019 World RX will be one topic for me. A couple of years ago Rene Muennich gave me my first try in World RX and since then we have a pretty good relationship. This season, due to the fact we had some TCR together and some World RX, we spent a lot of time travelling together and for sure our relationship got stronger,” said Scheider. “I would already say we are more than just driver and team boss and this is a connection that could be more interesting for the future. I’d like to drive with Rene, that’s the most realistic for 2019 but how the programme will be we are still working on it.”Scheider has already confirmed that he will continue driving with BMW in circuit racing next season but wants to be involved in rallycross into the future. “I still think this is the championship with the most potential for good racing, for exciting racing for race drivers but also for fans. If there’s anything in terms of race format and racing that would fit to electric cars then for sure it’s World RX, the stadium atmosphere we have with the side by side starting on the line. This is already mega exciting for the fans and will be the same with electric cars. I hope everything will be sorted soon and we see a bright future for rallycross, because I’m still in love with it.”
