New FIA World Rallycross Championship team ESmotorsport has announced the signing of Sebastien Lessoneur as technical director.

The French engineer has previously headed up the data and performance department of Hyundai Motorsport in the World Rally Championship and this year worked for EKS Audi Sport as Andreas Bakkerud’s performance and race engineer. “I saw my first rally car on stage when I was really young and since that moment I knew that I will drive a rally car and work in motorsport. I’m really happy and proud to join ESmotorsport-BRGroup. I feel a lot of passion and commitment coming from every single person involved in the team. Building a team from scratch is always a challenge and even more when you do it for a World Championship level but our foundations are already strong, starting with the car itself,” said Lessoneur.

The team is running a testing and development programme with its new Skoda Fabia WRX Supercar, with Kevin Abbring and Nassar Al-Attiyah sharing the driving. In the statement announcing Lessoneur’s arrival, ESmotorsport said it is: “on full attack to be ready for the next year’s World Rallycross Championship. The drivers who will race for the team are not announced yet but the team is fully confident to fight for high places straight from the first race next year, and the team expects to be able to fight in the front row in 2020. For that, ESmotorsport-BRGroup will have a parallel development programme in 2019 in order to improve the car performance.”
