Estonian ace Muru set for multi-event RX2e programme

Former RX Academy event-winner and multiple national rallycross champion Marko Muru will graduate to the FIA RX2e Championship for selected outings this summer.

Former RX Academy event-winner and multiple national rallycross champion Marko Muru will graduate to the FIA RX2e Championship for selected outings this summer.

Muru was crowned in both the Estonian and Latvian-Lithuanian Rallycross Championships last year, having previously contested the SET Promotion-run RX Academy, in which he finished third in the standings in 2018. His impressive CV also includes title glory in the Baltic Rallycross Championship’s Super1600 class in 2021, and he currently leads the TouringCar category on the domestic scene.

The 19-year-old Estonian will dovetail that challenge with RX2e appearances next weekend at Höljes in Sweden (1-2 July) – where he triumphed in the RX Academy in 2019 – and then again in the penultimate round of the single-spec, all-electric series’ 2023 campaign at Mettet in Belgium on 5-6 August. His car will be operated by championship promoter, QEV Technologies.

“As 2022 was really successful for me, we looked for options to compete at international level in 2023 and RX2e seemed the best opportunity,” Muru explained. “After I tested the car, I was certain this was the way to go – I felt right at home.

“Höljes is my favorite track, and having raced there already three times in the RX Academy, I know it suits me well and I have always been fast there. Of course, this time there will be a lot of new things for me to learn but I hope I can adapt to everything and give it my best. To race at a World RX event has been the goal since the beginning of my rallycross career, and to do it at the most legendary track is really a dream come true.”

“We’ve known Marko for some time now, with him joining us in the RX Academy and he has good natural ability,” added SET Promotion co-owner, Kalle Pinomäki. “SET has always put effort into helping young drivers on their career paths, and even though we are not running the car for Marko in the events he will do in RX2e this year, it is behind-the-scenes where we have assisted in this instance.

“Marko was fast in the RX Academy, and since then he has also impressed with his success in the Baltic Championships, so we are very much looking forward to him taking this next step into RX2e.”

Muru completes the RX2e grid for the ‘Magic Weekend’. The full entry list is below.
