The all-new Silverstone rallycross circuit offers an excellent opportunity to experience the sheer spectacle of the FIA World Rallycross Championship presented by Monster Energy when it makes its debut on the calendar in May, according to leading drivers Andreas Bakkerud and Timmy Hansen.

The purpose-built track was inaugurated over the weekend when it hosted the opening round of the 2018 MSA British Rallycross Championship, with Team Peugeot Total driver Sebastien Loeb defeating fellow World RX ‘wild-cards’ Timmy Hansen and Andreas Bakkerud following a closely-contested final.

Despite cold and wintery conditions, a sizeable crowd turned out to catch a glimpse of what to expect on May 25-27 when Silverstone hosts the World RX of Great Britain for the first time as the centrepiece of the highly anticipated Speedmachine festival.

With drivers noting the track’s challenging layout, EKS Audi Sport driver Bakkerud assures fans will be in for a treat when they attend the World RX of Great Britain later this year.

“It’s great to be at Silverstone. I was looking forward to coming here to race and to check out the new facilities. I think the track is very flowing. It’s a bit greasy and muddy when it’s wet but this is just a character of the track and it’s equal for everyone." “In the beginning, I thought it was quite a flat track, but when I got here I was surprised about how much you can actually see from the grandstands and I’m pretty stoked about the future of it. I tried to ask a lot of the different fans and they said they saw the whole track and they were pleased."

It is a view shared by Team Peugeot Total’s Hansen, who believes Speedmachine, with its live music line-up, manufacturer test drives and e-gaming, will be the ideal complement to the track action for fans.

"I think the venue here is really cool – it’s huge! I think with all the Speedmachine festival activity around it will be a great event. Though we still need to do some things on the track, the layout is not too bad. The racing was fun and it’s great to be back."

Offering a tantalising blend of action and entertainment, the Speedmachine festival will feature exhilarating wheel-to-wheel racing from the FIA  World RX Championship, along with top music headliners – including Dizzee Rascal, Ministry of Sound and Lethal Bizzle – a mouth-watering array of iconic machinery on and off track, eGaming, drifting, the very best street food and even the chance to get behind the wheel and drive the Silverstone Circuit yourself.
