ERIKSSON WINS RALLYX ON ICE AT HOLJES

The second round of the 2018 RallyX On Ice series was held at FIA World Rallycross Championship circuit Holjes in Sweden last weekend, in somewhat different conditions the usual World RX July weekend.

In the event, World RX drivers shone, with 2016 World RX of Germany race winner Kevin Eriksson winning the Supercar Lites category ahead of RX International Series race winner Sondre Evjen and sometime World RX Supercar driver Oliver Eriksson, who had won the opening round. It was Kevin Eriksson’s first win on ice having previously finished second five times. “It was a good weekend for me, almost perfect. I only conceded two points through the qualifying races and I had to beat two younger guys to get here. I really had to give it everything in the final and thankfully it was enough,” said Eriksson. “My Olsbergs MSE team-mate Cyril Raymond had a tough weekend, but he stuck around to act as my spotter in the final. He helped to keep me calm, and when he told me I had enough of a gap to Sondre behind, I knew I just had to maintain that although it certainly wasn’t over until the chequered flag fell. I was actually a little bit nervous. This is the first time I’ve won a race on ice so it’s a good feeling.”

Reigning RX2 champion Raymond didn’t qualify for the semi-finals after he got stuck in a snow bank. In the Speedcar Xtreme class for crosskart buggies, 2016 FIA European Rallycross Champion Kevin Hansen won ahead of fellow World RX drivers Niclas Gronholm and Timmy Hansen. Finland’s Jesse Kallio, who will race in the Euro RX Super1600 category this year for winning the RX Academy last season, won the RX Academy on Ice class at Holjes.
