HANSEN WINS Q4 AS KRISTOFFERSSON IS TOP QUALIFIER

Sweden’s Timmy Hansen set the quickest time in Q4 at the final round of the FIA World Rallycross Championship in Cape Town, South Africa, as Johan Kristoffersson claimed the TQ (top qualifier) position.

Hansen took the lead at the first corner of Q4 race five and beat Kristoffersson to the finish line after the new World RX Champion had taken his joker on lap one. Kristoffersson will start on pole position in semi-final one in the African sunshine this afternoon while Hansen climbed to second in the Intermediate Classification and will start on pole position in semi-final two. Like his older brother, Kevin Hansen made a sideways move in the first corner of Q4 race three and set the third quickest time. He qualified eighth in the Intermediate Classification and will join his brother and the other Peugeot-Hansen driver, Sebastien Loeb, on the semi-final two grid, Kevin Hansen on row two and Loeb on row three.

Germany’s Timo Scheider won Q4 race four and was fourth quickest to move up to fourth in the Intermediate Classification ahead of the semi-finals. The MJP Racing Team Austria driver will join Timmy Hansen on the front row of semi-final two as Sweden’s Mattias Ekstrom will join Kristoffersson on the front row of semi-final one.

Latvia’s Janis Baumanis and Finland’s Topi Heikkinen finished ninth and 11th in the Intermediate Classification and will share row three in semi-final one, America’s Ken Block, Loeb and Sweden’s Kevin Eriksson completing the semi-final two grid.

Russia’s Timur Timerzyanov and France’s Jean-Baptiste Dubourg will be first reserves for the semi-finals should any of the top 12 drivers fail to start.
