WORLD RX STARS TO APPEAR AT GRID IN SOUTH AFRICA

World Rallycross Champions Petter Solberg and Johan Kristoffersson will join Norway’s Andreas Bakkerud and America’s Ken Block as the World RX stars competing at Gymkhana GRiD in Johannesburg, South Africa, just a week after the Gumtree World RX of Cape Town.

Double World RX Champion Solberg won the all-wheel drive category at GRiD in 2016, and will return with the PSRX Volkswagen Sweden Polo GTi Supercar together with 2017 World RX Champion Kristoffersson this year. "I'm very excited to head to Gymkhana GRiD after the World Rallycross final. It’s been a long and intense season and to finish things off with a visit to Gymkhana GRiD is fantastic. Based on the experience last year, the competition will be tough but for me it's just about pushing as much as I can,” said Solberg. “I expect Johan to be fast - even though it's his first time at Gymkhana GRiD. Of course Ken will be very fast again too. It's going to be a great show and a great battle. I'm looking forward to going flat out and for the win again - that’s for sure!".

Kristoffersson secured the World RX title in Latvia last month, but will make his GRiD debut in South Africa. "I'm looking forward to Gymkhana GRiD a lot. It will be a completely fresh challenge for me. I have a lot of experience of circuit racing, but not so much with Gymkhana, but you know the principles of driving fast always stay the same. You need to keep it super clean and hit all your braking points, apexes and lines perfectly,” he said. “Petter, the team, and I have put in a lot of work to develop the Polo GTI Supercar in rallycross this year. I think with a few small adjustments it's going to be super fast at Gymkhana GRiD.”

Bakkerud drove his team mate Ken Block’s Ford Escort MkII at GRiD in 2016, but will compete this year in the Hoonigan Racing Division World RX Ford Focus RS RX. "I'm super excited to be returning to Gymkhana GRiD again this year," said Bakkerud. "Bringing the Ford Focus RS RX will be a fresh challenge too. Driving the Hoonigan Ford Escort MkII at Gymkhana GRiD in Greece last was so much fun, so I can’t wait to get out there with my Ford Focus RS RX."
