Germany’s Rene Muennich will race his Muennich Motorsport team’s ex-Petter Solberg Citroen DS3 Supercar in the next round of the FIA World Rallycross Championship at Trois-Rivieres in Canada next month.

Muennich scored his first ever international rallycross podium in the third round of the FIA European Rallycross Championship at Holjes in Sweden recently.

“I was very happy to finish on the podium at Holjes. I wasn’t really thinking about it before, and then it happened. I needed some time to get it (for it to sink in),” said the experienced driver.

Muennich made his first start with the DS3 at the British round of World RX at Lydden Hill, and has since raced it at Euro RX events in Norway and Sweden. His best result at Trois-Rivieres so far was last season, when he finished 14th in his team’s Seat Ibiza Supercar. “As we know, the car is quick, so I can be quick the car, but too many small things are working differently so I need a bit of time to get used to it,” he explained. “I started at Lydden in England, that was not a disaster but it was just ok. Norway was a big disaster and even in Holjes in the qualifying races, every time there was something not right. I was happy to get into the semi-finals and from there into the final. To get to the podium was a big step for me. I think there is much more to come from the car in the future. We’re just focusing race-by-race at the moment.”

The entry list for the eighth round of World RX in Canada will be released tomorrow, Tuesday 11 July.
