LYDDEN HILL ENTRIES REVEALED
The entry list for the fifth round of the FIA World Rallycross Championship at Lydden Hill in Great Britain has been released by the FIA, where six additional competitors will join the 18 permanent teams and drivers to make up the 24-car field.
In the three World RX events held at the Lydden Hill circuit so far, Norway’s Andreas Bakkerud, Norway’s Petter Solberg and Sweden’s Mattias Ekstrom have added their names of the list of winners at the venue where the first ever rallycross event was held 50 years ago.
MJP Racing Team Austria’s Timo Scheider will miss the event due to clashing commitments, the seat in his Ford Fiesta Supercar filled by 2013 British Touring Car Champion Andrew Jordan, who finished on the World RX podium at Lydden Hill in 2014. Following a maiden FIA European Rallycross Championship podium in Barcelona, British Rallycross Championship leader Ollie O’Donovan will also compete, as will rallycross newcomer Oliver Bennett in another Ford Fiesta Supercar. Bennett made his rallycross debut earlier this year and is currently second in the British Championship standings.
Euro RX driver Martin Kaczmarski impressed against World RX opposition at Hockenheim last weekend and had added Lydden Hill to his World RX events for 2017, where Belgium’s Gregoire Demoustier will also compete in DA Racing’s second Peugeot 208 Supercar, his fourth rallycross start of the season. Germany’s Rene Muennich will miss the Belgian round of World RX this weekend but will return for Lydden Hill, where former Euro RX Super1600 and TouringCar Champion Michael De Keersmaecker (MDK) will also compete.
13 Euro RX TouringCar competitors will contest the third round of the Championship. Heading into the second round for the rear-wheel driver Championship in at Mettet this weekend, Sweden’s Philip Gehrman leads the points.
The RX2 International Series will also feature on the bill at Lydden Hill.
