Sunday 7th of August 2016

Norway’s Petter Solberg struck back in Q4 after his eighth fastest time in Q3 to be quickest for the third time of the weekend at Trois-Rivieres in Canada, the seventh round of the FIA World Rallycross Championship and qualify top at the Intermediate Classification.

Solberg beat Russia’s Timur Timerzyanov in their Q4 race, Timerzyanov finishing second at the Intermediate Classification and will start on pole position for the second semi-final, while Solberg will start from pole in semi-final one. Sweden’s Johan Kristoffersson was sixth fastest in Q4 and will join Solberg on the front row of semi-final one this afternoon, while points leader Mattias Ekstrom will join Timerzyanov on the front row of semi-final two, following a pair of third fastest times this morning.

Ekstrom won the last race of the qualifying stages after Andreas Bakkerud lost time on the third lap while leading, delaying Kristoffersson, who passed the double-2016 winner in the joker lap. Bakkerud was tenth fastest and is sixth at the Intermediate Classification, one place ahead of team mate Ken Block, who finished second to Petter Solberg in the Q4 times.

Block will start alongside Sebastien Loeb in semi-final two, the former WRC star finishing 12th in Q4 after contact with Topi Heikkinen but is fifth overall, with Heikkinen eighth. Sweden’s Anton Marklund, Timmy Hansen and Kevin Eriksson also make it into the semi-finals, as does Eriksson’s OlsbergsMSE team mate Niclas Gronholm.

Latvia’s Reinis Nitiss qualified thirteenth overall and will be first reserve should any of the top 12 not make it to the semi-final start grid.
