Latvia’s Reinis Nitiss is swapping the Ford Fiesta rallycross Supercar he races in the FIA European Rallycross Championship for a Mitsubishi Evo rally car this weekend as the keeps his hand in by competing in Rally Estonia.

Nitiss currently leads the Euro RX Supercar Championship in a SET Promotion Ford Fiesta, but is driving a Neiksans Rallysport run Mitsubishi Lancer Evo X, co-driven by Andris Malnieks in Estonia this weekend, against a number of star names from the World Rally Championship, including Estonia’s Ott Tanak, Ireland’s Craig Breen and New Zealand’s Hayden Paddon.

“This season a lot of effort has been put on rally driving to further increase the level of my racing skills. For that reason I’m really satisfied that I’m able to drive on Rally Estonia this weekend. I must say many thanks to Sportland Latvia, we have a great partnership that ensures I have an opportunity to test myself in conditions outside of my comfort zone,” said Nitiss. “Besides that, several WRC drivers are also competing at the event, so it will be great to see them at the service park, have some chat there, and exchange experience. Who knows, maybe someone is willing to join me at rallycross for an event or two – the world is always full of surprises!”

Nitiss won the first and third rounds of Euro RX Supercar, in Catalunya-Barcelona and at Holjes in Sweden. The second round at Mettet in Belgium was won by 2017 Euro RX Champion Anton Marklund. Reigning RX2 International Series Champion Cyril Raymond finished on the podium on his Euro RX Supercar debut at Mettet and fought with Nitiss for the win at Holjes before he was given a penalty for an overtaking move. The final two rounds of Euro RX 2018 will join the FIA World Rallycross Championship at Loheac in France and Riga in Latvia.
